What is the concept Indian Army behind "Tour of Duty"
INDIAN ARMY'S "Tour of Duty"
Indian Army came up with a scheme known as "tour of duty". The scheme underlies the fact that civilians could be allowed to join Indian Army for a three- year tenure as officers and Jawans.
They could also join in other ranks and even give their valuable service while in frontline as fighters. It is off course a good proposal. It aims to tap the resurgence of nationalism and patriotism among youths of this country who do not want to join Army as a profession but wish to experience the military culture and ethos which they think can instill a gentlemen approach towards leading life less ordinary.
The demography of India is in favour of Indian army since it has a huge population of youth. This proposal is going to be discussed further among bureaucrats and top commanders of Indian Armed Forces.
Presently Army recruits young candidates for a tenure of 10 years which is extendable upto 4 years. This is Army's short service commission recruitment. Though officers after completion of 14 years in Army can opt for permanent commission provided with certain conditions and available vacancies.
Top Business are in favour of this since they would be getting a chance to recruits best managers and security experts far better than a candidate who has completed MBA with no industry-experience.
Anand Mahindra showed his willingness to give ,those trained youths who come out of Army spending 3 years, a chance to serve his company. He thinks it is going to be an asset for private players since the stringent procedure and training gives a youth an added advantage in manning any organisation with confidence
Informative and helpful
