1. NCERT books: NCERT books are of immense help as far as UPSC civil services
preparation is concerned. NCERT books from class 6-10 are very necessary. Subjects like History,Geography,Civics,Science and Economics must be covered properly. Class 11, 12 books which covers History,Geography, Civics,Economics,Sociology and Art and Culture which cannot be neglected.
2. Polity by Laxmikanth: This is very famous among IAS aspirants. It is considered Bible of Polity.
3. Indian Economy by Ramesh Singh: This book is written in very lucid language. It covers all the concepts associated with economics and economy of the country.
4. Spectrum's Modern India: This book is also very famous. It is actually written by IPS officer Rajiv Ahir. During his preparation he used to make notes for Modern Indian History. He compiled those notes into a book. The advantage of reading this book is that it is written in simple language and easy to revise since it has summary at the end of each lesson.
5. Ancient Indian History by Ram Sharan Sharma: This book is finely crafted by a renowned Historian R.S Sharma. He was the founding chairman of Indian Council of Historical Research.
6. Ancient and Medieval India by Poonam Dalal Dahiya: This is written by a women IPS officer.
