National Engineer's Day : 15th September

Happy National Engineer's Day: 15th September.

National Engineer's Day is celebrated in India specially on 15th September every year since 1968, on account of birth anniversary of Sir Mokshagundam Vishweshvaraya (popularly known as Sir M.V).

This day recognised the contribution of engineer's in the development of nation.

Sir M.V was diwan of Mysore. He was awarded "Bharat Ratna", India's highest civilian award and honour for his phenomenal contribution towards nation building in 1955.

There is a story associated with him. Once he was travelling in a train during British days. He was quietly sleeping on his berth at night. Suddenly he woke up and pull up the emergency chain to stop the train as soon as possible.

People and railway staff became very angry and started humiliating after reaching his boggey in which he was sitting quietly after the train stopped.

He told the staff that there was a broken track few metres away. The staffs thought he was making fun of them as it is impossible to see the tracks from inside the train.

After thorough checking it was found that there was a broken track few metres ahead. There could be a fatal accident if the train would not stop then.

When officials of railways asked how he had seen such a detail with accuracy.

Sir M.V told them that he was enjoying the sound produced by the friction of wheels and tracks. Suddenly it became different and creaky which according to him suggests track breakage and he woke up to pull the emergency chain to save thousands of lives in the train.

The staffs and concerned officials that time thanked him and apologize for humiliating and scolding without knowing the cause.

This is one of the finest quality of a engineer like Sir M.V.
